About Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center, Inc., (FRC) founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization providing shelter, education, and support services to adults and children who have experienced or been impacted by or exposed to domestic or sexual violence, abuse, or neglect. FRC is an established organization with programs that are comprehensive and multi-dimensional, targeting individuals, families, and the community. FRC programs include a 20-bed emergency shelter, an 8-bed transitional program, a 10-unit transitional housing program (in partnership with H.O.P.E, Inc.); Lester House Child Advocacy Center, Individual Supportive Counseling and Advocacy Program, 24-hour Crisis Hotline, Prevention Education Program, Community Awareness Program, and Volunteer Program. Our service area includes the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, Wythe, and the city of Galax.

FRC receives about two-thirds of our operating funds from grants. The remaining amount needed to operate our shelters comes from revenue generated from our thrift store and community donations. Secondhand Treasures Thrift Store is very important to FRC's ability to provide shelter and other services to the community. When you support Secondhand Treasures by shopping, donating, volunteering, or spreading the word about our store you are helping FRC provide important services to the adults and children in our area.
